Please read this before you rely on anything Plumped tells you.
1. Plumped is not a medical service
Plumped is a cosmetic and wellbeing tool. It is not a medical device, it is not a diagnostic tool, and it is not a healthcare service.
Plumped does not:
- diagnose, treat, cure, prevent or monitor any disease, injury or medical condition;
- provide medical, clinical, dermatological or pharmaceutical advice;
- replace a consultation with a doctor, dermatologist, pharmacist or other qualified professional;
- create a professional relationship of any kind between you and PLUMPED LTD.
When Plumped scores an attribute such as "acne" or "redness", it is describing the visual appearance of your skin in a photograph. It is not making a clinical finding and it is not telling you that you have a condition.
2. Always speak to a professional
See a doctor, dermatologist or pharmacist if:
- you have or suspect you have a skin condition, including acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis or dermatitis;
- a mole, mark, lesion or patch of skin is new, changing, bleeding, itching, painful or not healing;
- your skin reacts badly to a product;
- you have a skin problem that is getting worse, or is affecting your sleep, mood or daily life;
- you take prescription medication for your skin, such as isotretinoin, topical retinoids, antibiotics or hormonal treatment;
- you are unsure about anything.
Do not delay seeking medical advice because of something Plumped showed you. Do not stop a treatment a professional has prescribed because of something Plumped suggested.
If you are seriously unwell, having a severe allergic reaction, or in an emergency, call 999 in the United Kingdom, 112 in the European Union, or your local emergency number. Plumped cannot help in an emergency and we do not monitor the Service for emergencies.
3. Plumped cannot detect skin cancer
Plumped does not screen for, detect or rule out skin cancer or any other serious condition. It is not designed or validated for that purpose and it must never be used for it.
If you are worried about a mole or a mark on your skin, see a doctor. Do not use Plumped to reassure yourself.
4. Our analysis is an estimate
Skin analysis from a photograph is approximate. Accuracy is affected by:
- lighting, including colour temperature and shadow;
- camera quality, focus and lens distortion;
- distance and angle;
- makeup, sunscreen, skincare residue, sweat and glare;
- skin tone, where analysis systems are known to perform unevenly;
- the condition of your skin on the day.
The estimated age is a rough guess, not a measurement.
Scores can change between scans without your skin having changed. Treat trends over time as more meaningful than any single result.
5. Product and ingredient information
Ingredient and product information comes from third-party databases, from barcode lookups, and from reading the text on packaging. It may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong. Formulations change without the barcode changing.
Always read the actual product label and the manufacturer's instructions. They take priority over anything Plumped shows you.
We do not manufacture, sell, test or inspect any product. When we link to a retailer, we are not warranting that the product is genuine, safe, suitable for you, or correctly described.
6. Compatibility and conflict warnings
Our compatibility guidance is a general rule of thumb based on commonly accepted skincare practice. It is not personalised clinical advice.
The absence of a warning does not mean a combination is safe for you. Skin varies enormously between people.
7. Patch testing
Patch test every new product before using it on your face.
A simple approach: apply a small amount to a discreet area such as the inner forearm or behind the ear, leave it for 24 to 48 hours, and check for redness, itching, burning or swelling. Repeat for two or three days for products containing active ingredients.
Stop using any product immediately if you experience irritation, burning, swelling, blistering, a rash, or difficulty breathing. Seek medical help if a reaction is severe or spreading.
8. Active ingredients
Routines suggested by Plumped may include active ingredients such as retinoids, alpha hydroxy acids, beta hydroxy acids, azelaic acid, vitamin C or benzoyl peroxide. These can be effective, and they can also irritate, sensitise or damage skin if used incorrectly.
Some specific points:
- Retinoids and retinol. Retinoids are not recommended during pregnancy or while trying to conceive. Oral retinoids are known to cause serious birth defects, and the standard precautionary advice extends to topical use. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy, speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using any retinoid.
- Sun sensitivity. Retinoids, AHAs and BHAs make skin more sensitive to sunlight. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 30 every day while using them.
- Layering. Combining multiple actives, or increasing frequency too quickly, commonly causes a damaged skin barrier. Introduce one new active at a time.
- Salicylic acid. Speak to a professional before use if you are pregnant, or if you have an aspirin or salicylate allergy.
- Benzoyl peroxide. Bleaches fabric, and can cause significant irritation.
This list is not complete. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, immunocompromised, taking medication that affects the skin, or under the care of a dermatologist, check your routine with a professional before starting it.
9. Allergies
If you have a known allergy, always check the full ingredient list on the product itself before use. Plumped may not hold complete or current allergen information, and a formulation can change at any time.
10. Results are not guaranteed
We do not promise that your skin will improve, that any concern will resolve, or that you will see any particular change in any particular timeframe. Skin responds to many things we cannot see, including hormones, diet, sleep, stress, medication, environment and genetics.
Before and after images shown in our marketing illustrate what some people have experienced. They are not a prediction of your result.
11. Under 18
If you are 16 or 17, be especially careful with strong active ingredients. Please talk to a parent, guardian, pharmacist or doctor before starting a routine that includes retinoids, acids or benzoyl peroxide.
12. Your responsibility
You decide what to put on your skin. Plumped gives you information to help with that decision, and the decision remains yours.
To the extent permitted by law, PLUMPED LTD is not liable for any adverse reaction, injury, loss or damage arising from your use of a product, from a decision you made in reliance on the Service, or from a delay in seeking professional advice. Nothing in this disclaimer limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected. See section 13 and section 14 of the Terms of Service.
13. Telling us about a reaction
If you experience a reaction to a product we recommended, please tell us at contact@plumped.co.uk. It helps us improve our guidance, although we are not able to give you medical advice in reply.
In the United Kingdom you can also report a problem with a cosmetic product to your local authority Trading Standards service, and report a suspected adverse reaction to a medicine through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme at yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk.
